I led an online workshop on May 6 via the Universidad Católica de Manizales, open to EMI lecturers from UCM and institutions across the Sistema Universitario de Manizales (SUMA) network. Thank you to the UCM Global team for the invitation.

Workshop description:

Design deliberately sequenced and scaffolded lesson plans for your EMI course to help students achieve learning outcomes related to content, communication, cognition, and culture.

This 3-hour workshop will include presentation of key concepts and frameworks, group discussion, work time, peer sharing, and instructor and colleague feedback. Participants will come away from this workshop with a lesson plan for their EMI course which aligns to CLIL principles, a CLIL lesson planning template, and a variety of relevant tools and frameworks for EMI and CLIL in higher education, along with a digital certificate of participation.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this workshop you will be able to:

  • Create learning outcomes for your lesson that incorporate the 4Cs
  •  Design lesson plans that integrate CLIL-aligned learning activities that build toward learning outcomes, using a CLIL lesson plan template
  • Incorporate scaffolding to ensure lesson flow and account for your group’s unique learning needs
  • Apply the CLIL Matrix to structure and sequence of tasks according to cognitive and linguistic demand.
